Falcon VII’s main goal was to score, score, score. We accomplished this by having a fast 6 wheel drive train with omni wheels in the front and back. This allowed us great maneuverability around the large field. We also had an arm that extended 10 feet up and allowed our gripper to place tetras on all of the goals.
Strengths-The strongest point of our 2005 robot was our gripper. Whenever we latched onto a tetra, we didn’t drop it.
Unique feature(s)-Once again it was our gripper. Most teams were grabbing the tetras from the top, whereas we picked it up from the bottom. Our gripper consisted of two small arms that would be inserted inside the tetra and then opened to clamp down on the sides of the tetra. This allowed us more control and stability which led to us scoring more points.
Favorite memory with robot-“My favorite memory of the 2005 season was at the Boilermaker Regional in the semifinals. We were paired with teams 16 and 393 and went up against teams 71, 1024, and 269. We won the first match in exciting fashion and the arena went up in cheers. However, in the second match the standings were evened up as the number one alliance came back with a win. In the deciding match to see who moved on to the finals it came down to literally a quarter inch. The red alliance squeaked it out as their tetra was a quarter inch higher than the blue alliance’s thus winning the goal and in turn the match. It was an amazing run that hopefully we’ll be able to top this season.”
